Awards and Distinctions

In the spring of 2012, achievements and contributions to the field of geology by Osisko's founder, Mr. Robert Wares, were recognized with an honourary Doctorate from McGill University, his alma mater.  Quintessential scholar/entrepreneur and visionary geologist, his work led directly to the initial acquisition of the project, and his guiding hand on exploration led to the ultimate discovery of over 13 million ounces of gold, truly a feat accomplished by few explorationists in the sum of their careers.

On April 21, 2012, Malartic Chamber of Commerce awarded Osisko with the « Comble du Comble » Award. This distinction recognizes Osisko's influence on the Malartic economy.

Significant contribution of a company to its collectivity, especially towards employment, purchasing, contracts granted and local involvement.

This award is given to a person or company demonstrating leadership in management and financing for the exploration and development of mineral resources.

This award is given to an individual or team that has contributed to the development of a mining project into its production phase.

This award honours the business spirit and contribution of entrepreneurs here and around the world. Recipients are selected based on several criteria, including vision, leadership, financial success, and social responsibility.

Luc Lessard, Senior Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer of Osisko, accepted the award for construction of a major work site, bestowed annually by the Association de la Construction du Québec.

The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (“CIM”) presented Osisko with the 2010 Syncrude Award. This award recognizes extraordinary systems, programs or processes that have far-reaching and positive sustainability effects in all industry sectors across Canada. It recognizes those individuals, communities, organizations or corporations that are working to create economic wealth while mitigating their environmental impact.

This distinction highlights the work of an entrepreneur whose business has grown or progressed significantly. Recall that in 2009, the Canadian Malartic project obtained all necessary approvals for the construction of the project, paving the way for the sustainable and responsible development of the largest open pit gold mine in Canada.

The Association de l'Exploration Minière du Québec ("AEMQ") presented Osisko with the e3 Award (Environmental Excellence in Exploration) which recognizes the Corporation's high level of environmental and social responsibility as well as its compliance with e3 best practices developed for exploration activities by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada ("PDAC"). The AEMQ recognized Osisko for its efforts in mitigating the impact of the Canadian Malartic Project on the surrounding population, its involvement in community development as a key partner alongside the citizens of Malartic, and the creation of FEMO (Fonds Essor Malartic Osisko) to financially support local initiatives that will improve the quality of life of Malartic residents.

This award, which honours the memory of a PDAC past president, is presented annually at the association's annual convention to a person or team who has/have made an important contribution to the prospecting and/or exploration industry. Osisko was recognized for its discovery and ambitious expansion of the gold resource on the Canadian Malartic property and for the company's determination to move ahead to production in 2010.

This prize is awarded annually to highlight the importance of a new discovery that has a significant impact on exploration activity on the property and in the surrounding region.
