The closest comparable Archean, bulk tonnage, open pit gold deposit considered similar to Canadian malartic is the Troilus Mine, located north of Chibougamau and operated by Inmet Mining Corp. This is an intrusion-related Cu-Au deposit consisting of a broad, subvertical, potassic-altered zone of disseminated sulfides (po-py-cp) hosted by amphibolite. Proven and probable reserves as of December 2004 stood at 33.1 Mt grading 1.1 g/t Au-equivalent (Au+Cu). Average total production costs over the last three years are US$285 per ounce gold, and current production is at 18,500 tpd.
